Spirit of the Highlands

The people

Founded by Sandy Matheson, a keen hillwalker, Granite North takes its inspiration from the dramatic landscapes. The idea came to Sandy one day while climbing Braeriach, the third highest mountain in Britain. Qualified as an engineer, he has combined his love of gin and passion for the outdoors to create a gin from the North East of Scotland

The products

Taking its name from the rock closely associated with the North East of Scotland, Granite North gin is inspired by the rugged peaks and ancient forests of the Scottish Highlands. It's a smooth Scottish gin, packed with fresh citrus taste. Its outdoor personality is revealed with a subtle infusion of Grand Fir needles that complement the taste of its juniper cousin

Inspired by the Highlanders who took to the mountains over 300 years ago with their mobile stills to make not just illicit whisky but also uniquely flavoured Scottish gin. With a rugged, mountainous landscape with plenty of botanicals growing wild (juniper, pine, heather & thistles), those early distilling pioneers made spirits and gins with a truly distinctive Scottish twist. The Granite North team have re-created that rugged, uniquely Scottish spirit today in their Granite North gin

Today the Highland landscape is still as wild, rugged and full of botanicals as it used to be. It's this landscape that inspired Sandy Matheson to create Granite North gin. The recipe was developed in Aberdeen with the backdrop of the Cairngorms visible in the distance
